GovernorBank Negara Malaysia
Dato' Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour is the 10th Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia. He was appointed for a five-year term effective 1 July 2023. In his role as Governor, Rasheed also serves as the chair of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Executive Committee.
Rasheed joined the Bank in 1988 and has helmed various positions across the breadth of the Bank’s primary functions. These include monetary policy and economics, international reserves management and financial markets, financial sector development, and banking regulations. In 2016, he assumed the role of Deputy Governor.
Rasheed has also played a leading role in driving the Bank’s advocacy efforts on economic affairs, including in the areas of social protection and labour market reforms. This includes to support and advise the Government on issues relating to the management of the pandemic. He also played key roles in the development and implementation of the Financial Sector Masterplan and Financial Sector Blueprints.
At the international level, Rasheed has served and been a member of various international platforms, such as the Islamic Financial Services Board and Bank for International Settlements. He has also championed various efforts to strengthen regional financial integration and cooperation, such as the ASEAN Banking Integration Framework. Previously, he also served as the Alternate Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Voting Group Office of the International Monetary Fund.
Rasheed attended St. John’s Institution in Kuala Lumpur, prior to obtaining his Bachelor of Economics from Universiti Malaya. Rasheed also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
Executive ChairmanSecurities Commission Malaysia
Dato' Mohammad Faiz Azmi was appointed the Executive Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) in June 2024 by the Minister of Finance. He was appointed as Board member of the SC in August 2023.
He was the Chairman of PwC Malaysia for 11 out of his 30 years with the firm. He has over 38 years of experience in the audit and business advisory services in Malaysia and the UK. He was the leader of PwC's Global Islamic Finance Team practice from 2007 to September 2012. He was also PwC's Malaysia's Financial Services Leader and joint Head of Audit and led the ESG and Shariah Investing as part of PwC's Sustainability and Climate Change practice in Malaysia. He retired as a partner and the Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia in June 2023.
Much of his recent work has been with the Federal and State Governments involving work related to Accrual Accounting, acting as an Administrator for an airline and certain government entities and being part of the Federal Government National COVID-19 vaccine rollout. He has also been involved in the financial restructuring of government agencies and investigations.
Dato’ Faiz is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and a Fellow of ICAEW. He has held the post of President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, Chairman of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board, President of the Kuala Lumpur Business Club and ICAEW City Group Chairman.
He was educated in Malaysia and the UK and read law at the University of Durham before being called to the English Bar. He is an alumnus of Lincoln’s Inn and a member of the Inns of Court of Malaysia. He is a member of the Worshipful Company of Chartered Accountants England and Wales. He was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah (DSIS), which carries the title Dato’ in 2013 by the Sultan of Selangor. He was conferred an Honorary Degree of Doctorate of Laws by the University of Nottingham in July 2016.
Managing DirectorMonetary Authority of Singapore
Mr Chia Der Jiun was appointed Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) on 1 January 2024. He was previously Permanent Secretary (Development) at the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). Prior to his appointment at MOM in 2020, Der Jiun had spent 18 years at MAS in a range of functions covering monetary policy implementation, reserve management, macroeconomic surveillance, and banking supervision and regulation. At MAS, he was last Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Development) with responsibilities for risk, finance, payment system and currency operations, HR and organisation transformation. Der Jiun also served as Executive Director for Southeast Asia at the International Monetary Fund from 2011 to 2013. He holds a BA(Hons) in Politics and Economics from Oxford University and an MBA from INSEAD.
Chief ExecutiveHong Kong Monetary Authority
Mr Eddie Yue was appointed Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) from 1 October 2019. He began his career as an Administrative Officer in the Hong Kong Government in 1986. He joined the HKMA upon its establishment in 1993 and was promoted to Division Head a year later. He was appointed Executive Director in 2001 and subsequently Deputy Chief Executive in 2007 before taking up his current position.
Mr Yue has participated in numerous areas of the HKMA’s work. During his tenure as Deputy Chief Executive, he steered major policies and initiatives relating to reserves management, research, external affairs and market development. Mr Yue was also actively involved in tackling major financial crises and played an instrumental role in enhancing the Linked Exchange Rate System.
Mr Yue was educated at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Harvard Business School.

Former Minister of Finance of Greece
Dr Yanis Varoufakis is a sought after keynote speaker on global finance and an acute analyst on the changing political landscape and how economies are evolving. He is best known for serving as the Minister of Finance for Greece in 2015.
Yanis is featured in the six part 2022 documentary series - 'In the Eye of the Storm — The Political Odyssey of Yanis Varoufakis' - this series explores his career and his views on democracy, capitalism, leadership and the future of humanity.
He has written several books including Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism (2023) and Another Now (2020) as well as other books about economics, society and Europe.
Varoufakis taught economics and econometrics at the University of Essex and the University of East Anglia. In 1988, he spent a year as a Fellow at the University of Cambridge. From 1989-2000 he taught as senior lecturer in economics at the Department of Economics of the University of Sydney and in 2000 he accepted the offer to become Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Athens.
From 2004-06, Varoufakis served as economic advisor to George Papandreou, then Leader of the Opposition during 2004-06. In 2012 Varoufakis became Economist-in-Residence at Valve Corporation. He researched the virtual economy on the Steam digital delivery platform, specifically looking at exchange rates and trade deficits. From 2013-14 he taught at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin as a visiting professor.
